Founded in November 1962, the International Society of University Colon and Rectal Surgeons was founded by Drs Harry Bacon, Stuart Ross, and Fidel Ruiz-Moreno to facilitate international collaboration in colon and anorectal surgery and for the purpose of exchanging scientific knowledge globally to improve surgical and medical patient outcomes.
Our Purpose
As the only truly international colon & rectal society, we strive to remain an all-inclusive organization that embodies a human touch to patients. Contrary to its name, the Society also accepts applications from individuals who are not affiliated with universities
Our Mission
To implement strategies that deliver value to our members, industry and partners, fostering strong support for the continued growth and success of our society and members.
Strategies
I. Promote the advancement of colon and rectal surgery by hosting congresses, cooperating with national organizations and organizing meetings across the globe to facilitate the exchange of scientific knowledge.
II. Enhance education, research, innovation, and leadership in colon and rectal surgery with the aim of achieving global parity in the quality of medical and surgical care for patients with colorectal diseases.
III. In recognition of the different income levels throughout the world, the Society keeps its registration fees to a minimum, ensuring that members from all backgrounds can participate in the Society’s educational activities and attend our biennial meetings.
IV. All ISUCRS members have free dashboard access to the World Journal of Colorectal Surgery, the Society’s official open access publication and previously videoed educational congress lectures and webinars on our website.
Our Vision
To strengthen the unity of our Society by harnessing the collective efforts of members from every nation in the world as well as of the executive council members. For that purpose, each member is expected to prioritize the overall benefit of ISUCRS over their individual interests when acting.
